Course Fee: $200.00
A free-form practice with origins in Shinto (the indigenous spirituality of Japan), Katsugen leaves us refreshed, cleansed and re-sensitized. It uncovers our spontaneity, authenticity and health.
In Katsugen we set aside the mind and the will, and we let the body be moved.
In Shinto, Katsugen was called Reido, which translates to shaking. But Katsugen can take many forms; you may yawn, twist, shiver or lie down and fall asleep. You may sit there and feel nothing is happening — yet Katsugen is still taking effect.
Spontaneous movement happens constantly in the function of our organs, our emotional responses to life, and in our blinking, yawning and breathing. The practice of Katsugen is a designated setting to invite this movement to express fully. We start with short exercises to open the spine, diaphragm and neck, and then we allow movement to come. We finish with a closing exercise which seals the practice.
In this course we will frame Katsugen with a short lecture, learn the warm-up and closing exercises, and give plenty of space and time for spontaneous movement.
Following Katsugen we may do some basic partnered touch practice. In the space of authenticity cleared by Katsugen, we will lay hands on the abdomen, back, feet and neck, following the breath.
This course is suitable for everyone. You need not have experience with Katsugen or bodywork/massage to attend.
