Sport-Specific Toolkit Sessions
Taught by Terri Visovatti
Each Course 3 CE Hours, $75
I like to say let’s stop chasing the pain and figure out what’s going on. I’m a “forensic” massage therapy specialist, so to speak.
Often clients etc are under the assumption that what is bothering them is because of their activity. Sometimes they assume they even have to stop that activity. While running for example may be an issue; it may not be the only contributing factor. What about the other 80-90% of the day? Or maybe a client is feeling better and returns to the activity but what PART of the activity is the problem?
You will not be a coach at the end of this. You will however have a better working knowledge of what to look for when assessing a client so you can better help them return to their sport. It is outside our scope to diagnose but we can engage in support surrounding musculoskeletal issues.
Help clients that “don’t know what they did” find other contributing factors to their issues and return safely.
Assembling a Toolkit for Runner Focused Bodywork
Most, if not all of us, have worked with runners. We may or may not even be runners ourselves! We know sports massage techniques, and possess other skills too. Now let’s put it all together.
This course will review what you may already know but then build from there and organize how to assess and best work with this population.
The topics include but are not limited to:
- What optimal running form looks like. Bring your running shoes and some comfy clothes we are going running! (Not really but we will be doing some activities to better understand what to look for with our runners)
- How “running to run” differs from running within another sport.
- Common running injuries and how to work with them within our scope.
- How to include other modalities we may also use. This is a somewhat active class but not learning “new” techniques. It’s about knowing when and where and what techniques to use!
Assembling a Toolkit for Swimmer Focused Bodywork
Most, if not all of us, have worked with swimmers. We may or may not even be swimmers ourselves! We know sports massage techniques, and possess other skills too. Now let’s put it all together.
This course will review what you may already know but then build from there and organize how to assess and best work with this population.
The topics include but are not limited to…
- What optimal swim form looks like. We will focus primarily on freestyle as this is the main stroke used for lap swimmers and in triathlon as well. We will touch on other strokes as we can.
- Common swimming injuries and how to work with them and encourage clients to prevent them within our scope.
- How to include other modalities we may also know. This is a somewhat active class but not learning “new” techniques. It’s about knowing when and where and what techniques to use!
